Vom Toei Animations-Studio in Tokyo war hier bereits in anderem Zusammenhang die Rede<\/a>. Auch davon, welche Bereicherungen das deutsche Fernsehen ihm in den 70er Jahren zu verdanken hatte. Zwei, die ihre Kindheit anscheinend auch mit Heidi und Captain Future, wenn auch in diesem Falle vor Fernsehern in Frankreich verbracht haben, sind Guy-Manuel de Homem Christo und Thomas Bangalter.<\/p>\n

Welche Spuren dies bei den beiden hinterlassen hatte, zeigte sich viele Jahre sp\u00e4ter, als sie bereits die Mitglieder des Electronic Music Duos Daft Punk<\/a> waren. Schon f\u00fcr die Single-Auskopplungen ihres Deb\u00fctalbums Homework von 1997 waren Musikvideos von Michel Gondry (Around the World), Spike Jones (Da Funk) und Roman Coppola (Revolution 909) gedreht worden, was allen drei St\u00fccken einen dauerhaften Platz in der MTV-Rotation sicherte.<\/p>\n

Um dies mit ihrem zweiten Album zu toppen, mussten sie sich etwas einfallen lassen: \u201eIt was during the early sessions for our second album Discovery that we came up with the notion of an animated musical, mixing science-fiction with the decadent world of show business, limousines with spaceships. So we began, alongside the music, to write the story with our friend and collaborator C\u00e9dric-Hervet. As all three of us grew up with the enigmatic, poetic universe of \u201eAlbator\u201c, we dreamt of a possible collaboration with Leiji Matsumoto<\/a>, and in the summer of 2000, we flew to meet him, taking our album and the completed synopsis. In Tokyo, Leiji welcomed us warmly. Enthused when he heard the music, he joined the team right away. At last we are ready to blast off into his baroque intergalactic universe.\u201c<\/p>\n

Matsumoto machte aus Discovery einen waschechten japanischen Manga: Interstella 5555<\/a>. Die Optik erinnert stark an die auch in Europa bekannten Fernsehserien von Toei Animation, die Musik von Daft Punk passt dazu ganz hervorragend und ein dauerhafter Platz f\u00fcr die dem Film entnommenen Musikvideos in der MTV-Rotation war selbstverst\u00e4ndlich auch wieder gesichert.<\/p>\n
